Forest fire fighting
Civil protection
The SMI is responsible for ensuring that the Free State of Saxony's disaster control is equipped with standardized vehicles and for procuring them within the scope of available budget funds.
The SMI is currently procuring 15 forest fire-fighting vehicles for the newly established "forest fire-fighting platoon" disaster control units in the districts of Meißen and Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains and in the Ore Mountains district. The total weight of this vehicle type is around 15 tons. The special feature of this vehicle, which is based on a standardized TLF 3000, is that it is mounted on a category 3 chassis - an all-terrain vehicle that is suitable for driving on all roads and off-road (cross-country). The vehicle is equipped with a water tank of 4,000 liters and a permanently installed foam compound tank for holding 100 liters of Class A foam compound. The model vehicle will be presented by the Free State of Saxony at the "FLORIAN 2023".

In addition, vehicles - TLF 4000 and KdoW - from the existing "forest fire-fighting platoon" disaster control units will be presented.
TLF 4000: The water tender has a large water tank with a capacity of 4,500 liters. The vehicle is equipped with a switchable all-wheel drive and can therefore also be used in rough and sandy terrain. The vehicle is also equipped with additional equipment for forest fires (including additional hoses and nozzles). The TLF was built on a MAN chassis with a 290 HP engine. Its dimensions are 7,170 mm long, 2,500 mm wide (without side mirrors) and 3,300 mm high.

KdoW: The KdoW was built on a FORD Ranger. It is used as a command vehicle for the platoon leader of a fire-fighting platoon. It is therefore equipped with appropriate communication technology. Other command equipment includes, for example, maps, writing materials and IT devices, which are procured by the unit's owner (district) according to local conditions. The SMI is currently procuring four more such vehicles for the forest fire brigades.
